In this video you can listen to traditional Russian Easter choir music (Easter hymns) and see some amazing images of Russian Orthodox Easter traditions.
On Holy Saturday evening the Orthodox followers gather in church for an Easter Mass – in a totally darkened church. Russian Orthodox churches have an inner sanctuary, only accessible to the priest. The door is closed until midnight but exactly at midnight, the priest opens the door and comes out saying “Christ is risen! Christ is risen! Christ is risen!” and after hours of silence, the worshipers answer back “He is risen indeed!”. In the video you can hear just that – fragments from an Easter Mass.
And Happy Easter to all our visitors and other people.
